What’s In a Name?
Quick quiz: What does IBM stand for? If you said “International Business Machines” pat yourself on the back. What exactly is an International Business Machine? It doesn’t really matter because the letters IBM have become synonymous with computers and modern technology.
Quiz 2: What is Gypsum? Webster defines gypsum as, 'a widely distributed mineral consisting of hydrous calcium sulfate that is used especially as a soil amendment and in making plaster of paris.' To our customers it means wallboard, a product like its name refers that is used to build walls inside commercial and residential jobs. Like IBM the name Gator Gypsum has evolved to include a myriad of other products not always associated with our industry.
Power tools, hand tools, abrasives, floor protection, fire caulk, fall protection, powder actuated tools, gas actuated tools, Tyvek wrap, scaffolding, trash carts, lumber and safety equipment are just a small part of our overall offering. Over time our customers have asked that we accommodate them by carrying more of the products that they use on a daily basis. That saves them from driving from store to store but also gives them peace of mind because they get the same level of service with every product that we sell.
Our drywall inventory has grown to include moisture resistant, soundproof and a product made of lead (for use in safety and medical applications). As the market changes we test and evaluate new product and include it in our inventory if it meets our rigorous standards. It is then our responsibility to introduce and educate this product to our clients. We firmly believe in our responsibility to be a proactive partner in every client relationship that we have.
Our name is Gator Gypsum but to the people that know us it means much more.
